Jeff specializes in all aspects of marijuana law, with an emphasis in administrative and criminal defense, regulatory compliance, and business formation, licensing, and transactions.
Jeff heads the firm’s criminal defense section, handling all cases from municipal offenses to misdemeanors to felonies. With a special expertise in cases related to marijuana and controlled substances, Jeff aggressively defends individuals accused of driving under the influence, possession, cultivation, distribution, manufacturing, and extraction. He has a detailed understanding of Colorado’s marijuana and drug laws, and stays on top of the many new changes in this field. Unlike many prosecutors, Jeff understands the complexities and processes involved in marijuana cultivation and processing. Together, this knowledge allows him to protect clients’ rights and to explain in detail to juries, judges, and prosecutors how law enforcement often gets things wrong. In municipal, county, and district courtrooms across the state, Jeff has achieved very favorable results for individuals accused of crimes, with some getting their cases dismissed entirely.
On the business side, Jeff has successfully guided numerous businesses from initial formation all the way through the complicated state and local licensing processes to obtain recreational and medical business licenses. Jeff continually advises businesses on how to maintain regulatory compliance, and has successfully defended both individuals and businesses accused of violations by the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division. He also regularly counsels medical caregivers and recreational home-growers on how to cultivate legally and head off problems with law enforcement. Finally, Jeff assists clients with business transactions, including business sales, ownership restructuring, leasing issues, and contracts.
Jeff is admitted to practice in the state of Colorado and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. He is a founding member of the Colorado Bar Association Cannabis Law Committee, and also serves on the Compliance Council for the Colorado Cannabis Chamber of Commerce (C4).
Jeff received his J.D. from the University of Denver, where he graduated in the top ten percent of his class as a member of the Order of the Coif. While at DU, Jeff served on the University of Denver Law Review, participated in the Student Trial Lawyers Association, and also represented indigent clients free of charge in the Criminal Defense Clinic. Prior to joining McAllister Law, Jeff clerked for the Eichner Law Firm, a Denver criminal defense firm, and also interned in the La Plata County Court under the Honorable Martha Minot. Jeff received his bachelor’s degree from Colorado College, where he studied history and biology.
